Naked Freshwater System

Softer, low-chlorine pool water from the Naked Freshwater System. We supply and install it on new and existing pools, and it is easiest to fit while your pool is empty for resurfacing.

We work with Naked Pools

How the system works

The Naked Freshwater System replaces a standard salt or chlorine system. A digital control unit runs two parts working together.

ION: copper and silver

A low current releases small amounts of copper and silver into the water. Silver helps control bacteria and copper helps stop algae.

OXI: oxidation

Water passing over titanium plates is oxidised, producing a very small amount of chlorine to break down organic matter such as sweat, sunscreen and leaves.

Digital control

The control unit mounts near your pool equipment, with a timer, backwash mode and winter mode.

Fits most pools

Naked Pools says the system suits concrete, fibreglass, vinyl and tiled pools, and can be fitted to existing pools. The NKD-M (MINI) suits plunge pools and swim spas up to 30,000 litres.

How the chlorine levels compare

Naked Pools compares its recommended free chlorine level with typical chlorine, salt and mineral pools, and with treated drinking water.

Chart comparing average chlorine levels: chlorine pools 3 to 5 ppm, salt 2 to 3 ppm, mineral 1 to 2 ppm, Naked Freshwater 0 to 0.5 ppm

Why owners choose it

What Naked Pools says it offers

  • Much lower chlorine levels than a standard pool
  • Gentler on eyes and skin
  • Lower running and chemical costs
  • Less salt in the water
  • No need to rinse swimwear after swimming

These are the manufacturer's claims. Results depend on your pool, its equipment and how the water is looked after.

The Naked system is a special-order item, paid in full when you accept the quote, before we order the parts.

Protecting your surface

Water balance matters

Copper keeps algae away, but too much copper can stain fibreglass and gelcoat surfaces. Keeping the water in balance protects your pool surface and your warranty. Naked Pools' targets for fibreglass pools:

  • Copper 0.2 to 0.5 ppm, tested with the Naked copper test kit
  • pH 7.2 to 7.4. High pH hides a true copper reading, so check pH first
  • Total alkalinity 80 to 120 ppm, calcium hardness 150 to 190 ppm
  • Free chlorine 0 to 0.5 ppm, salt or mineral 500 to 700 ppm
  • Never add copper-based algaecides
  • Wipe the waterline regularly to stop sunscreen and oil marks building up

Naked Pools notes that pH often runs high for the first 10 to 12 weeks on a new surface, so test more often while it settles.

Our resurfacing warranty covers our workmanship and materials. It does not cover staining or discolouration caused by copper, metals or water chemistry. Black spot, a water care condition, is not covered either.

Questions

Common questions

Is the Naked system chlorine free?

Not completely. The system produces a very small amount of chlorine through oxidation to break down organic matter. Naked Pools recommends keeping free chlorine between 0 and 0.5 ppm, which is far lower than a standard salt or chlorine pool.

Can it go on a fibreglass pool?

Yes, provided the water is kept in balance. Copper above the recommended level can stain fibreglass and gelcoat surfaces, so copper and pH must be tested regularly with the Naked test kits and kept within the manufacturer's range for fibreglass pools.

Can it be fitted while my pool is being resurfaced?

Yes, and it is a good time to do it. Ask us to include it in your quote and we will talk you through timing for starting the system on your new surface.

Who looks after the warranty on the system?

The Naked equipment is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, handled through Naked Pools. Our resurfacing warranty covers our workmanship and materials. It does not cover staining or discolouration caused by copper or water chemistry.

Do I still need to test my water?

Yes. Naked Pools recommends testing pH weekly, copper weekly to fortnightly (especially in summer), and phosphates every 4 to 6 weeks, with a pool shop water test every couple of months.

Is there a model for small pools and swim spas?

Yes. Naked Pools makes the NKD-M (MINI) for plunge pools and swim spas up to 30,000 litres, and larger models for standard pools. We will recommend the right size for your pool.
