GET A FREE QUOTEFibreglass pools generally need a renovation anywhere from 15 years old to 30 years. We can fix a number of problems that your pool may experience with age and deterioration including some of the following;
Older pools tend to suffer with a blistering issue known as osmotic blistering. This happens when the gelcoat layer begins to break down and allow water to penetrate between the layers of fibreglass and blister outwards. These blisters can become a severe problem if left untreated. The only certain way to remove osmosis blisters is to cut out the blister and re-patch with fibreglass.
Fibreglass pools have a colour layer which is known as a gelcoat. This layer tends to break down over the years, due to constant UV exposure from the sun, and wear and tear from use. Such thing you will expect to notice is ‘whitening’ of the surface with a chalky texture, and possibly dark patches forming on the horizontal surfaces, which is fibreglass beginning to show though as the gelcoat colour layer has completely worn away. This is known as exposure.
Although black spot can be found in new pool also, it is more common in older pools. Black spot is a mold growth that forms relatively easy in older pools as the gelcoat colour layer breaks down. The ‘black’ area can be very difficult to remove long after the mold issue has been corrected, as it tends to stain the surface.
The gelcoat colour layer will become brittle eventually and change in temperature or physical pressure can cause the gelcoat to fracture. This problem is not aesthetically pleasing, but should not provide any immediate threat to the integrity of the pool.
The older the pool, the more brittle the fibreglass layer will become. You can expect pool 20+ years to develop crack if exposed to any ground water pressures from heavy rain or any sort of terrain movement.
You may be loosing water through surface fitting such as eyeball jet or hydrostatic valves. We can repair and replace accordingly.
