Questions

Common questions

What does pool resurfacing involve?

We drain the pool, brace it if needed and protect it from the weather. We clean the existing surface and mechanically abrade it so the new layers bond, and repair cracks, voids and osmosis. Then we laminate the whole pool with fibreglass matting in vinylester resin, apply a base coat, and finish with a UV-stabilised gelcoat in your chosen colour. Your existing pool stays in place as the base.

Which pools can you resurface?

Fibreglass pools, concrete pools (painted, pebblecrete, marblesheen and quartz), most vinyl liner pools, spas, ponds and water features, and commercial pools. We confirm your pool is suitable at a free inspection.

Do you remove the old surface?

No. We clean and prepare the existing surface and bond a new seamless fibreglass membrane to it. Loose or drummy marblesheen and pebblecrete is removed and re-rendered first, but sound render stays as the base.

How long does it take?

Most residential pools take about a week on site, weather permitting. Your Pool Condition Report gives you the expected timeline for your pool.

How much does pool resurfacing cost?

It depends on the size and shape of your pool, what it is made of, its condition, any steps or fittings you want changed, access, and how far we travel. We work Australia wide, so we don't publish a single price. After a free inspection you get a fixed written price in your Pool Condition Report.

What is a Pool Condition Report?

A free written report that comes with every quote. It includes photos of your pool, a plain-English assessment of what we found, our recommendation and why, the full scope of works, colour options shown on real finished pools, your warranty, and a fixed written price with payment terms.

How do I pay?

A 20% deposit (minimum $500) locks in your start date. A 40% progress payment is due when work starts, and the final 40% on completion. Jobs under $2,500 pay the $500 deposit and the balance on completion.

Can I pay it off over time?

Yes. Finance is available through humm on approved applications, with 0% interest instalment plans from 6 to 40 months. A $90 establishment fee and a $9.95 monthly loan fee apply. Approval is subject to humm's credit assessment, and fees, terms and conditions apply.

What warranty do I get?

A full fibreglass resurface of a pool or spa comes with a 5 year written warranty on our workmanship and materials. The resin and gelcoat system has 3 years, crack repairs 12 months on the repaired section, and ponds and water features 2 years. The warranty starts once your final invoice is paid, and passes to a new owner if you sell.

Can I change the colour of my pool?

Yes. There are eight gelcoat colours: Glacier Blue, Horizon Blue, Reef Blue, Coral Teal, Storm Grey, Sahara Cream, Lily White and Amazon Green. You can try them on a photo of your own pool with our colour visualiser, and we bring samples to your inspection.

Can you add steps or a ledge?

Yes. A resurface is the best time to build in new steps, a ledge or a swim-out, because the pool is already empty.

Can my vinyl liner pool be converted to fibreglass?

Usually, if the walls are cement sheet or concrete on a concrete floor. Pools with thin steel or tin walls on a sand base usually can't be converted as they are. If a concreter pours a new concrete floor first, we can then fibreglass the floor and walls.

Do you patch concrete pools?

No. We don't do standalone patch repairs on concrete pools. Cracks and damaged areas are repaired as part of a full fibreglass resurface, which gives you one seamless surface.

What if groundwater comes up while the pool is empty?

We manage groundwater through the pool's hydrostatic valve as part of the job. If the ground is very wet and that can't keep up, a new hydrostatic main drain may be needed. We explain this at inspection if your site is likely to be affected.

Do I need to be home while you work?

Not usually. We need access to the pool area, power and water. We agree the details with you before we start.

What isn't included?

Electrical work, coping replacement and waterline tile replacement are outside our scope. We note them in your report if they need attention, and can recommend trades.

Where do you work?

We are based in Mornington and resurface pools across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. Regional and interstate jobs are planned so our crew stays nearby until the job is done.
